Coach Biographies

D'Arcy Hill ​

Awarded Coach Of The Year 2019 by Volleyball Yukon, D'Arcy is a great asset to HYVC. He has been coaching for over 15 years at all different levels from U13 to University. Most recently D’Arcy has coached Square 1 as part of The Heat Yukon Volleyball Club, here in Whitehorse for the last couple years. In the Yukon he has also coached ages U13, U14, U16 and U18 teams through Subzero. D’Arcy has also represented the Yukon as the Head coach for the following teams: Women’s 2015 Western Canada Games Volleyball team, 2016 Men’s Arctic Winter Games Volleyball team, and 2017 Men’s Canada Summer Games Volleyball team. D’Arcy is a Trained Performance Coach (old level 3) with Volleyball Canada and is working on his Masters in Coaching and Sport Administration at Concordia University of Irvine in California. We are excited and happy to have D’Arcy as not only a coach for HYVC but as our President. 

Marc Senecal (Coach Sen)

Sen has been coaching volleyball at various levels for over 25 years.  He has coached in both the rural and urban settings and in cross cultural settings.  Sen originally received his coaching certification in Manitoba and has since obtained his Trained level as a Performance coach from the NCCP and has a Masters degree in Sport Administration from Indiana.  After some 20 years of coaching at the school level, Sen has recently become involved in club ball as head and assistant coach for both girls and boys teams.  When asked why he coaches, Sen answers: "Someone volunteered to coach me, someone volunteered to coach my daughter, it's my turn to give back."  Sen has been a part of the HEAT Volleyball Club from the beginning and is currently the Vice-President.

Heather Julsrud

Amanda Bartle

Both a player and a coach Heather brings to the table her post secondary experiences and her Advanced Development Coaching Level. She has coached and assisted coached numerous age groups in Whitehorse in the last 4 years. Heather also coached the 2016 Women's Arctic Winter Games team. On top of coaching Heather helped run/organize the 2017 Yukon Championships, and  ran an adult level of play in Whitehorse for the past 3 years. She currently sits on the Heat Yukon Volleyball Club board as secretary/ treasurer and will be 2020 Club Coordinator. 
​​Amanda has been playing volleyball since elementary school, club ball throughout high school, played as a middle blocker for the College of the Rockies, as well as in Switzerland on a cantonal team. Though coaching since 2006, Amanda started coaching Yukon volleyball players in 2012, and volunteered for Volleyball with the last Arctic Winter Games held in Whitehorse, and she hasn’t looked back. Amanda has coached young female “Atomic” players in grade 5, school volleyball grades 5-12, and club volleyball from U14-U18. Success in Volleyball is a team concept, and Amanda really appreciates the team aspect of volleyball in developing athletes. Amanda is really excited to be a part of the Heat team this year!

Lynn Pollard

Lynn Pollard grew up in a small town in Saskatchewan. She has been playing volleyball since Grade 5, playing mostly setter and some right side. She had the opportunity travelled to provincials and nationals with her club team. Lynn became interested in coaching a few years after moving to Whitehorse. Lynn took the level one Development coaches course two
years ago was the assistant coach for U14 Girls in the 2019 club season. She also assisted the Western Canada Summer Games team in 2019. Lynn is eager to expand her coaching knowledge and help the athletes build their volleyball skills with Heat Yukon Volleyball Club.

Scott grew up playing volleyball in southern Ontario. He played high school, club and four years of  college volleyball (in every position except middle). In Whitehorse Scott has coached three years at the U15 and U16 boys level. With a passion for high level volleyball, Scott wants to help wherever he can to increase the opportunity and experience for volleyball players in the Yukon.

Mattaeus Geisler

Mattaeus grew up involved in the sport community and has continued to follow his passion by remaining involved in youth volleyball.  Mattaeus has enjoyed coaching youth soccer of all ages, grade 8 and junior basketball, track and field, and U13 and U14 volleyball.  While attending the University of Victoria he became increasingly involved in sport analytics as he worked with the varsity rugby, field hockey and soccer teams. Recently, over the last 6 years, Mattaeus has been happily teaching at FH Collins and continuing his passion for coaching and sport performance while involved with high school grade 8 volleyball and the Heat Yukon Volleyball Club.
Corey grew up in Whitehorse playing high school volleyball. She played volleyball at Arctic Winter Games and Canada Summer Games. Playing every position from libero to middle she is very well verses in the understanding of the game. She started coaching last year, helping with the U13 group and is excited to be coaching U13's again this year. 

Tayla McNally

From being raised in Yellowknife, NT and growing up in Whitehorse Tayla found her way at a young age through the love of sports, volleyball always being a priority. Tayla has represented Team Yukon from Canada Summer Games in Alberta, all the way to Arctic Winter Games in Greenland. Tayla began assistant coaching her senior year of high school, and just recently returned to head coach a senior girls team after her studies to become a nurse. Tayla is ecstatic to better her coaching career along side the coaches she has played for and looked up to for several years. She can't wait to see what the season brings! 
Steven is a teacher, personal trainer, and volleyball player from Southeast Saskatchewan.  With a father who coached since 1985, Steven has been around volleyball as long as he can remember.  In high school, he played Middle and Right Side.  Steven moved to Whitehorse in 2015 with his wife and last year helped to coach the U14 Subzero team.  He is excited to help Heat Yukon players with their strength and conditioning as they progress through their season

James Russell

Born and raised in the Yukon, James grew up playing both school and club volleyball. He played for 5 years. Over the course of his high school/ club career he also got info refing and has been certified for 4 years. James has been coaching for a couple years, and took the U14 Subzero girls to BC provincials as the head coach. He enjoys coaching as he likes to pass on his knowledge of the sport to generations to come.
